Sim Local, the world’s largest pre-paid SIM card provider to the travel sector, today announces the opening of two brand-new stores at Heathrow airport – one in the newly reopened Terminal 4 (landside arrivals hall), and the other in the baggage hall of Terminal 2.
These locations are both key for local SIM card sales – T4 over indexes in non-EU traffic, with most flights coming from the Middle East. The baggage hall model has already proved incredibly successful in numerous locations across Europe – including in T3 at Heathrow as the dwell time waiting for luggage in baggage halls offers the perfect opportunity for customers to get connected without disrupting their journey.
As well as offering local SIM cards and eSIMs to global travellers so they can stay connected and avoid expensive roaming charges, the stores offer a curated range of mobile accessories. They join Sim Local’s existing portfolio of stand-alone stores in airports including Heathrow, Athens and Brussels as well as their extensive network of vending machines and affiliate partnerships.
Ian Rankin, Chief Trading Officer at Sim Local, comments: “The opening of our latest store at T4 sees Sim Local operate at least one store in every terminal at London Heathrow, a long-held ambition for the business. Coupled with the new baggage hall unit in Terminal 2 we now run a total of eight stores in Heathrow. We continue to explore opportunities to bring our market-leading SIM card & eSIM stores to other airport locations worldwide as well as ensure that all travellers passing through Heathrow are catered for.”
Fraser Brown, Heathrow’s Retail and Property Director said: “As the UK’s front door, we are delighted to welcome long-standing partner Sim Local’s brand-new stores to the airport. Heathrow strives to provide passengers with a diverse retail experience and these two stores will enable our inbound passengers to stay connected to their loved ones at a lower cost whilst staying in the UK.”
