Sim Local, the largest seller of SIM cards in the UK travel market, today announces that it has won a competitive tender to open two stores at Athens International Airport. The two stores – one in the landside arrivals area and the other in the baggage reclaim hall – are due to open in March and Sim Local have a contract to run them until 2027.

These two stores will give the inbound intercontinental travellers to Greece the opportunity to purchase great value local SIMs and get connected quickly and easily before leaving the airport.

Ian Rankin, Chief Trading Officer at Sim Local, comments: “Winning this tender is a huge achievement for our business and allows us to expand our offering to an important new territory. We are proud that despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic we have continued to grow our retail footprint opening new stores and vending machines in several European airports. We have long coveted a presence in Athens, in AIA we have a fantastic partner to work with, and we are looking forward to opening two stores there next month.”

Sim Local’s two Athens stores join its roll call of stand-alone stores that include multiple locations in London Heathrow and a store in the baggage hall at Brussels airport. Sim Local also operates a network of vending machines across European airports and works with affiliate partners such as WHSmith and InMotion in airports globally.
