Heading to Derry for Halloween? Here's what you should know: Derry Halloween 2026 runs from 28 October to 1 November, the Carnival Parade and fireworks are on 31 October at 7pm, and this year marks the festival's 40th anniversary. Your phone will do a lot of the work, from tickets to maps to the programme, so a prepaid Three UK eSIM is worth sorting before you arrive.
Derry Halloween began forty years ago with a fancy dress event in a pub. Today it is billed as Europe's largest Halloween festival, and Derry has been voted "Best Halloween Destination" by USA TODAY readers.
For the 40th anniversary, Belfast Live reports a ticketing system and a specially commissioned mural, and estimates that additional crowd-safety costs this year could reach £70,000. In practice: check the ticket rules for the events you want before you set off.
The parade is on 31 October at 7pm, with hundreds of local performers from schools, clubs and community groups, followed by a fireworks procession (details on the Visit Derry event page). One visitor guide puts the fireworks finale at around 8:15pm at the waterfront, so confirm timings in the official programme.
The trail brings the city walls to life after dark across three nights, with fire, sound, light and mystical creatures. Tickets are sold through the Millennium Forum website. If you want it quieter, one guide suggests arriving around 6pm, before the big crowds roll in.
The programme also lists Little Horrors, Freaky Family Fun, Tours & Trails and gigs. Walking tours of the Derry Walls are reported to sell out quickly, so book ahead if a haunted tour is on your list.
Derry is a short hop from the border, so many visitors pair the festival with the Republic of Ireland. Our guide to the best eSIMs for Ireland compares your options, and the 3-day Dublin itinerary is a good place to start if you're heading south.

Stay connected at Derry Halloween with a Three UK eSIM
Between e-tickets, last-minute programme changes, maps and the photos you'll want to share, a festival weekend uses more data than a normal one. A Three UK eSIM from Sim Local arrives by email straight after you buy it, so you can sort it out in the next couple of weeks without waiting for a card in the post. New to eSIMs? Start with our guide to what a UK eSIM is and how it works.
Not sure how much you'll use? Our how much data do I need guide breaks it down by activity.
Every plan includes a UK phone number, unlimited local calls and texts, 5G speeds where available and hotspot. Sim Local's Three plans also include roaming data in 70+ destinations, which covers Ireland if your trip includes the Republic.
Mobile coverage varies by network and by street, particularly outside major urban areas, and Three says signal and speeds may vary in rural or remote places. Before you buy, enter your accommodation's postcode into Ofcom's mobile coverage checker to see what to expect from each network.

28 October to 1 November 2026. The Carnival Parade & Fireworks is on 31 October at 7pm.
Some events are ticketed. The Awakening the Walled City Trail is sold through the Millennium Forum website, and Belfast Live reports a ticketing system for the 40th anniversary. Check the official programme for the events you plan to attend.
Derry-Londonderry has options for every budget, and Visit Derry's accommodation search is a good place to start. Check the official site's Getting Here section before you book, so you can plan around the festival crowds.
The official pages we checked don't set an age limit for the festival as a whole. The programme includes family-friendly events such as Little Horrors and Freaky Family Fun, and ticketed events list their own details on the booking page.
The parade is performed by hundreds of local people from schools, clubs and community groups, so taking part as a performer means joining one of those groups. Visitors can watch from the street and come in costume, as thousands of revellers do.
The festival starts on 28 October. Choose your plan from the table above, install your Three UK eSIM in minutes, and arrive with a UK number and data ready.
